The news PlayStation and Xbox gamers have been waiting years for has finally arrived, with Rockstar Games confirming that GTA 6 is in the works. The Red Read Redemption 2 and Bully makers have said that development is “well underway” on the next Grand Theft Auto game and that they “cannot wait to step into the future” with GTA fans. While no gameplay or in-game screens of GTA 6 have been revealed, just getting confirmation the next Grand Theft Auto is in the works has been enough to send fans into overdrive – after years of waiting for any kind of news on GTA 6.

And now GTA 6 has been announced, attention will shift towards when the GTA 6 release date could be.

Unfortunately, it might be some time till gamers will actually be able to play GTA 6 on the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Last year notable leaker Tom Henderson – best known for his Battlefield and COD leaks – dropped a tonne of alleged leaked info about GTA 6.

And Henderson gave an update on when the GTA 6 release date could be, saying it could be as far away as 2024 or 2025.

It remains to be seen if this is the case, but this would be in keeping with past Rockstar Games timescales.

GTA 5 first hit shelves two years after the debut trailer was unveiled.

Elsewhere, besides GTA 6 gamers could see more huge announcements dropped in February – this time by Nintendo.

The House of Mario are widely rumoured to be gearing up to host a Nintendo Direct for February 2022.

And according to leaker Zippo it will be a big one, with Mario Kart 9, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and a new Fire Emblem game all set to be revealed.

Nintendo hasn’t confirmed whether there will be a Nintendo Direct for February 2022 or when it will be.

But Twitter activity by Mario voice actor Charles Martinet could hint towards when the next Direct will be.

The man behind the iconic voice of Mario recently liked a tweet saying the next Nintendo Direct will be on February 16.

Elsewhere, JRPG fans have been given an update on the eagerly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2.

Earlier this week Square Enix marked the 25th anniversary of the original release of Final Fantasy 7.

A logo was revealed for the anniversary festivities while producer Yoshinori Kitase said the team hopes to reveal more of FF7 Remake Part 2 this year, VGC reported.

Kitase-san said: “With regards to the long awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake [Part 2]… there will be more information… this year if we can.”

And finally, if you’ve been left breathless by the acquisitions that have been announced so far in 2022 then there could be more to come.

January 2022 saw some huge gaming deals announced, with Microsoft announcing the seismic acquisition of Call of Duty makers Activision Blizzard, while Sony acquired Bungie – the original studio behind iconic Xbox franchise Halo.

And according to The Game Awards producer and host Geoff Keighley, more big deals are on the way.

On Twitter Keighley posted: “Have heard from multiple people: As you might suspect, there are a few other big video game deals in final stages of negotiations. It’s going to be an interesting year!”
