Priyanka heaps praise on Joyland
Priyanka Chopra Jonas took to Twitter and Instagram to heap praise on the Pakistani film, Joyland, which has been shortlisted for Oscars 2023. It has become the first ever Pakistani movie to achieve this feat. Sharing a video from the film, Chopra wrote, “Joyland is truly a joy to watch. Bravo to the entire team for bringing this story to life. It’s a must watch.” The film’s cast and crew also reacted to her post, and thanked her for praising the film. Joyland follows the story of the youngest son in a traditional Pakistani family, who gets a job as a back-up dancer in a Bollywood-style burlesque act. He falls in love with Biba (Alina Khan), a trans-gender woman who runs the show.
Is Kareena channelling her inner superhero?
Kareena Kapoor Khan shared a sneak peek of her next project, without revealing if it pertains to her next film, or an advertisement. Kapoor, who will next be seen in Hansal Mehta’s yet-untitled film, and Sujoy Ghosh’s The Devotion of Suspect X, shared the video, adding that an announcement would follow on January 27. The action-packed video sees her in a superhero avatar. Alongside the reel, she wrote, “It’s not such a big secret, all you have to do is ask nicely. Stay tuned. Any guesses?”
Rajamouli spills the beans
SS Rajamouli, who is currently basking in the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Awards wins for his film, RRR, will be sharing his methods, motivations, and creative journey in the upcoming docu-series, Modern Masters. From his humble beginning in television, to the global success of his epic Baahubali franchise and RRR, Rajamouli will be captured between set and office, at home and on the go. Meanwhile, the director also expressed his desire to work in Hollywood.
When Abhay lost a year
Actors could often be immensely influenced by the characters that they play, but Abhay Deol took things too far. Recalling how he wasn’t able to get out “of the head space” of his Dev D character, he recently said in an interview that for an entire year, he would drink each day, “like a fool”. His life, during that period, “is a daze” for him, he said, further discussing the troublesome relationship he has had with fame, and the media, given that he grew up seeing the toll that popularity took on people. Deol’s recent offering is the Uphaar cinema tragedy series, Trial By Fire.

Among the first ministers to perhaps raise his voice against the tendency of political parties to attack cinema for rather foolish reasons, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked his party members to refrain from making “unnecessary” comments about films. It is reported that the PM highlighted that his team works diligently for the welfare of the nation, and when party members make unwarranted comments on films, it is that news that instead makes headlines. He made the observation while addressing the last day of the two-day National Executive meet. Modi’s statement comes amid the recent protests against Shah Rukh Khan’s film Pathaan, with several BJP leaders like Ram Kadam and Narottam Mishra criticising the makers over Deepika Padukone’s saffron costume in a song.
Pallavi on road to recovery
National Award-winning actor Pallavi Joshi was injured while working on filmmaker-husband Vivek Agnihotri’s next, The Vaccine War, in Hyderabad. It is reported that a truck lost control and hit the actor. Joshi, however, completed her shot before heading for treatment to a local hospital. The Vaccine War pays tribute to the medical fraternity for their commitment to society during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is based on Indian scientists who developed the vaccine in a short span of time.
Wedding ceremonies begin?
Amid news of Suniel Shetty’s daughter Athiya and Indian cricketer KL Rahul’s upcoming nuptials, the latter’s home has undergone a festive makeover. While it is reported that security personnel claim the decor was for another wedding in the building, fans are certain that it is for the couple, who will reportedly get married on January 23. The ceremony, however, is expected to take place in Khandala. Whether or not the building was indeed bedecked for Rahul’s pre-wedding ceremonies will be known in due course of time.
