Young Guns actor Kiefer Sutherland has credited lockdown with making him realise that he “really likes” his partner. In a new interview, the award-winning actor, 55, spoke candidly about making his new album, Bloor Street, during the pandemic, which he says gave him the realisation that he “really likes” both his home and his girlfriend Cindy Vela.

Speaking to comedian Alan Carr on his Life’s a Beach podcast, the 24 star spoke about how lockdown proved to be a poignant time for him.

Kiefer said: “I found it interesting that during this incredibly difficult time, which has been this last year and a half of the pandemic, that I started writing these really hopeful songs.

“And I think it was because I became acutely aware of how lucky I am

“I’ve been able to have this career and been able to make films and do theatre and now make music,” he added.

The musician explained that he was now spending more time at home than ever before because of lockdown.

Kiefer added that the time at home made him appreciate how much he valued where he lives and being with his partner.

He said: “I was in my house for the first time in my life, you know, because I spend most of my time on the road.

“I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I really like my house’ and, ‘Oh my God, I really like my girlfriend.'”

“I think a lot of the songs like So Full of Love and Two Stepping in Time, they reflect that lyrically and I think, also musically, they’re kind of fun songs.”

Days ago, the star left his fans stunned after announcing that he was releasing an album.

Appearing on Sunday Brunch, the musician spoke to presenters Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer about his latest project, which surprisingly didn’t involve acting.

Kiefer is best known for his starring role as Jack Bauer in the FOX drama series 24, for which he won an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two Satellite Awards.

He has also featured in classic films such as Flatliners, The Lost Boys, A Time to Kill, and A Few Good Men.

Speaking about his new album, Kiefer explained: “I’ve been playing [music] all my life.

“You know, I wrote songs when I was in my teens, but I’ve certainly become more prolific with it in this last 10 years and I finally got to a place where I actually liked the songs I was writing,” he added.

Bloor Street by Kiefer Sutherland is available to buy now.
