Heroes of the Storm Players Frustrated With Blizzard Announcement

Blizzard has announced they will stop major updates for Heroes of the Storm.

In a blog post on their website, Blizzard updated players on the future status of the multiplayer online battle arena: “Moving forward we will support Heroes in a manner similar to our other longstanding games, StarCraft and StarCraft II. In the future, we’ll continue seasonal rolls and hero rotations, and while the in-game shop will remain operational there are no plans for new for-purchase content to be added. Future patches will primarily focus on client sustainability and bug fixing, with balance updates coming as needed.”

Blizzard has been phasing out Heroes of the Storm for a while, they essentially stopped support for the esports scene back in 2019. Now, it appears Blizzard is essentially stopping development on the game and leaving it in its current state for the rest of its lifespan. For context, the game Blizzard likens this situation to, Starcraft 2, which hasn’t received a patch since August 2020.

In a Reddit post regarding the blog post, Heroes of the Storm players reacted to the news. The reaction was a mix of optimism, anger and farewells.

One player begrudged the impersonal nature of Blizzard’s announcement: “Not even signed by anyone, written on a sheet of paper made into a paper aeroplane and thrown in our general direction.”

With brutal simplicity, another fan simply stated “As a lifelong, diehard Blizzard fan, I want to be clear when I say Fuck Blizzard.”

Others are disappointed with how Blizzard treated the Heroes community as they allegedly kept the community in a state of flux by releasing very infrequent updates while refusing to acknowledge the winding down of the game.

As a “thank you” to players, Blizzard will be giving away an Epic Arcane Lizard mount to all players with the patch next week.
