Xbox has announced that High On Life, the comedy-shooter game developed by Squanch Games, is its biggest launch of 2022 and the biggest third-party Game Pass launch of all time.
High On Life tells the story of a teenager who becomes a bounty hunter after an alien cartel discovers that humans can be used as drugs. The game features a mix of classic shooting, light RPG mechanics, and humorous elements, which has been a polarising combo. It is created by Justin Roiland and is most notable for its talking gun, Kenny, voiced by Roiland himself.
According to Xbox, the game has achieved this milestone based on the number of hours played in the first five days of its release. The game came out on December 12.
“This was our first time launching a game with Game Pass,” said Mike Fridley, studio director and COO of Squanch Games, “and we’ve been blown away by the response from the players who have made us the most popular game on Game Pass right now.” Matt Percy, general manager of content planning at Xbox, added, “It’s fantastic to see so many Game Pass members jump into it at launch to experience Squanch’s story for themselves ahead of the holidays.”
In its review for the game, IGN awarded High on Life a score of 8 out of 10, calling it “an irreverent, absurd shooter that manages to shine with its outrageous humour, silly setting and story, and some really goofy, foul-mouthed guns that pull the whole thing together for the vast majority of the time.”
High On Life is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows, and can be accessed through a Game Pass membership.
