How to download Digital voter ID on your smartphone

0
Introduction
It is important to carry an official ID proof, such as your voter ID card, for many reasons. However, you might not always be able to carry a physical copy of your official ID and might also fear its misplacement. To deal with such situations, the Indian Election Commission began issuing digital voter ID cards on the occasion of National Voters’ Day in early 2021. These “e-voter cards” are digital versions of your voter photo ID and are available for download in a non-editable PDF format on your smartphone, computer, or any other device that supports PDF files. In addition to this, your digital voter ID can be stored in digital lockers such as DigiLocker.
Pre-requisite:

  • Your mobile number must be linked to your voter ID. If not, you must complete the KYC process before downloading the e-voter card.
  • Keep your physical voter ID (or EPIC number) handy while downloading the digital one.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you download your digital voter ID card on your smartphone:

  1. Open any web browser on your smartphone.
  2. Go to the official website https://eci.gov.in/e-epic/ to get the digital voter ID.
  3. Tap on the Download e-EPIC option.
  4. Hit the e-EPIC download button available at the top of the webpage.
  5. Then, enter your login details if you are an existing user. If not, register yourself with a phone number.
  6. When you enter the portal, tap on the download e-Epic link and type in your EPIC number, which is the 10-digit unique number that is printed on your voter ID card.
  7. Verify your details displayed on your mobile screen.
  8. After that, validate your mobile phone number using an OTP and hit the download e-EPIC to download digital voter ID on your smartphone.
  9. Your digital voter ID will be downloaded on your mobile phone in a non-editable PDF format.

Conclusion
The e-voter ID card eliminates the requirement to carry a physical copy of your voter ID. Once your digital voter ID has been downloaded to your smartphone, you can upload it to your DigiLocker account. In addition to this, voters can apply for a duplicate voter ID card by filling out Form 8 on the same website, which will be sent to the address listed on their original ID.
