IMC 2022: Reliance Jio showcases 5G-connected ambulance; robotic arm and more

Reliance Jio is showcasing various use cases wherein 5G can play a vital role in saving people’s lives in its booth at the ongoing Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022. The company has displayed a 5G-connected ambulance, which as per the telecom giant, can transmit all vital information of the patient inside the ambulance to hospital in real time so that the doctors can make the necessary arrangements before his/her arrival. This will save time in preparations and help save the patient’s life.
In another use case related to medical emergencies in rural areas, Jio’s pavilion is showcasing a robotic arm. The company says that with the help of the high speed and low latency of its True 5G network, a radiologist or sonographer sitting hundreds of miles away from the patient in a rural area can perform an ultrasound as well as X-ray in real-time. This will help people in such areas to get access to medical needs without having to travel distances. The report of the ultrasound and X-rays can also be delivered at their homes.

Scores of frontline workers lost their lives in the isolation wards of hospitals during the Covid-19 epidemic. In order to avoid further loss of lives in such situations, Jio is also working on “Jio 5G Healthcare Automation”. This technology will include 5G-controlled robots that will be able to deliver medicines and food to isolation wards as well as other patients. With these cloud-based 5G controlled robots, the possibility of error is likely to be low. Furthermore, the robots’ maintenance and sanitisation will be done by a robotic fleet management system.

Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani reiterated that Jio will launch affordable 5G services in India on Diwali and by December 2023, the next-generation connectivity will be available in every town of the country. He said that 5G as a foundational technology will unlock the full potential of technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, and Robotics, among others.
