James Corden, 44, has addressed the reason behind his exit from The Late Late Show, saying he wants to go before it becomes “tarnished”. The Gavin & Stacey star opened up about his time on the show just after the furore surrounding a row with a restaurant boss that saw him get “banned” from a New York City eatery.

In a new interview, James explained that now was the right time to leave the show before it got “tiresome”.

He told Radio Times: “It’s been so perfect. That’s the reason to leave, really.

“If we leave now, we were part of a thing [that] never got tiresome or tarnished in any way.”

Discussing the future, James admitted that he does not fear what’s to come or not being as relevant again.

The restaurant then banned the celebrity, with Keith claiming that this was not the first time James had been off-hand with staff.

Last week, James apologised live on his chat show, admitting that at first, he believed he had done nothing wrong as he “didn’t shout, scream or get up out of (his) seat.”

However, he added: “I made a rude comment. It was wrong, it was an unnecessary, ungracious comment.”

The furore began after his wife Julia ordered an off-the-menu omelette dish consisting of only yolk, as she is “severely allergic” to egg whites.

However, The Late Late Show with James Corden star became irritated after the dish apparently arrived containing whites multiple times – and had to be sent back in case it triggered her allergy.

“My wife explained that she has a serious food allergy,” James explained on his CBS show last night.

“The meals came, my wife was given the food that she was allergic to… we sent it back.”

He added that the last straw that sparked his irritation was when the food was returned to the table with a side of fries instead of the salad option that Julia had requested.
