James Maddison: Leicester medics check star’s pulse after concerning off-ball incident | Football | Sport

Leicester’s medical staff were forced to check James Maddison’s pulse after the attacking midfielder went down unchallenged in the Foxes’ Europa Conference League clash against Randers. The 25-year-old started the match on the bench but was introduced by Brendan Rodgers in the 64th minute when he replaced fellow midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.

Yet Maddison did not complete the game and only played the best part of 20 minutes before he was forced off, after going to the ground in an incident off the ball.

Leicester boss Rodgers, who is already battling a number of high-profile injuries, watched on anxiously as his medical staff made their way onto the field.

Maddison stayed down for a while as he required medical assistance as concern began to grow.

But following some checks, including Maddison’s pulse, the playmaker was able to walk off with the assistance of the staff and headed straight down the tunnel.

BT Sport commentator Ian Darke later confirmed that Maddison headed straight to the medical room for further checks.

Rodgers has since provided an update on the player’s condition: “He just wasn’t feeling well. So we’ve taken him off, he’s just in with the medics. I just spoke to him then and he feels fine.”

The incident soured what was otherwise an excellent night’s work for the Foxes, who have had some low moments during this topsy-turvy season.

Leicester controlled the game from start to finish as they thrashed Randers 4-1.

Rodgers’ men got off to a perfect start when Wilfried Ndidi deservedly gave Leicester the lead in the 23rd minutes after Randers eventually caved in to mounting pressure.

But against the run of play, Randers pegged Leicester back just before the break through Vito Hammershøy-Mistrati.

Second-half goals from Harvey Barnes, Patson Daka and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall ensured Leicester secured a big win to put one foot in the next round.
