French fencing power couple given interesting ultimatum
French sabre fencers Bolade Apithy and Manon Apithy-Brunet may have secured medals at Tokyo 2020, but it was what came after that was more important – they got married.
The power couple knew going into Paris 2024 that it would be their final Olympics, and both were gunning to go out with a bang: gold.
So, of course, CGTN posed an interesting hypothetical to Bolade ahead of the Olympics: “If you could choose: You win a gold or Manon wins gold?”
“I give it to her 100 per cent. No brainer,” he immediately replied. “I give to her. She really deserves it, and I give it to her.”
Days later, Manon actually ended up walking away with gold in women’s individual sabre fencing, with Bolade walking away with a bronze.
