Kate Middleton’s body language during first outing as Colonel shows ‘power play’ – claims

Kate attended her first St Patrick’s Day Parade as Colonel of the Irish Guards on Friday, March 17, taking over the role from her husband, Prince William. Kate wore a teal-coloured coat dress for the occasion, as well as a shamrock-shaped brooch, in a nod towards Ireland.

Looking at William and Kate’s body language last Friday, Judi claimed the Princess looked “powerful”.

She claimed: “There’s some interesting power play signals here as William hands over to his wife, describing her as ‘Colonel Catherine’.

“After some signature signals of affection and fun between the couple during this outing, it’s interesting to see the dramatic change as Kate adopts a more serious look.

“She stands fully to attention as she fixes William with what looks like a seriously cold, hard stare.”

“The look shows how seriously Kate is taking her new role,” Judi claimed. “Her body language is immaculate here and military, rather than royal.

“William’s response to her stare is a very puckered-looking smile to suggest pride and perhaps a sense of respect for the woman who is taking over his role.”

After she and William arrived at the Barracks, Kate gave the Irish Wolf Hound regimental mascot customary sprigs of shamrock before delivering them to officers and guardsmen, who then distributed them along the ranks.

The Prince and Princess of Wales then met with the Irish Guards Association, which comprises of past members of the Irish Guards.

Kate was invited to inspect the front rank, while William inspected the second rank. Afterwards, the royal couple met members of the regiment before sitting for official photographs.

They also visited the Junior Ranks dining hall where the senior guardsmen in the Battalion proposed a toast.

Kate has attended every St Patrick’s Day Parade since 2012 – a year after her marriage to Prince William in 2011.

The Princess has almost always worn green for the occasion, paying tribute to Ireland and its people.

This year, Kate donned a brand new bespoke Catherine Walker dress in bright turquoise.

The garment was military in style, which was fitting for her first appearance as Colonel, as it featured a high collar and prominent shoulders.

The coat dress also had buttons running down its bodice and a belt-like piece of material around its waist.

Kate wore a matching fascinator by Jane Taylor, which retailed for a huge £1,400, and suede heels by Italian shoe designer Gianvito Rossi. These shoes were also turquoise.

The Princess completed her look with a tiny, gold, shamrock-shaped brooch, pinned to the left lapel of her coat.

Her hair was styled straight and tucked behind her ears. As for her make-up, she kept the look simple with lashings of black mascara and light pink lipstick.

Kate also sported a tiny pair of emerald drop earrings, which she has worn many times in the past.
