A special CBI court on Monday sentenced RJD president Lalu Prasad to five years imprisonment in the fifth and final case in the fodder scam. The court also imposed a fine of ₹60 lakh on him. The case relates to withdrawals from Doranda treasury during his tenure as chief minister of undivided Bihar. Prasad has already been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment in four other cases related to the fodder scam.

On February 15, the court had pronounced Lalu Prasad and 37 others guilty in the case. Since then, Lalu Prasad was under arrest and was at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi, due to health concerns. Yadav was in jail serving his sentences in other fodder scam cases since December 2017 and had come out on bail in April last year. “We have full faith in the judiciary and will apply for bail in the high court,” RJD’s Bhola Yadav, a close aide of Lalu Prasad, told ET from Ranchi.
