League of Legends Worlds 2022 Dates and Seeding Announced

Riot Games announced today that the League of Legends World Championship 2022 will kick off on September 29 with the play-in stage, where 12 teams will duke it out to secure their tentative spot on the main stage. The international tournament will culminate in the grand finals on November 5.

Live audiences will be returning to the World Championship starting with the Arena Esports Stadium in Mexico City between November 29 to October 4. Worlds will then be heading to the United States for the remainder of the main stage. Madison Square Garden will host both the group stage and the quarter-finals, beginning on October 7 and ending on October 23. Then, the semi-finals will be held at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta between October 29 to 30.

The World Champion will be concluded at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California on November 5.

The Schedule For Worlds 2022 Is As Follows:

  • Play-In Stage: September 29 – October 4 / Arena Esports Stadium, Mexico City
  • Group Stage: October 7-10 and October 13-16 / Madison Square Garden, New York City
  • Quarterfinals: October 20-23 / Madison Square Garden, New York City
  • Semifinals: October 29-30 / State Farm Arena, Atlanta
  • Grand Finals: November 5 / Chase Center, California

Riot Games also explained how the seeding for this year’s event would work. Due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, the representative from the League of Legends Continental League (LCL) which covers the CIS region is not attending. The leftover seed will be given to the League of Legends European Championships (LEC) as they have the best international performance over the past two years barring regions which already have four seeds (Korea & China).

Group Stage Seeding:

The following qualification spots will be auto-seeded into the group stage. The remaining four group stage representatives will be decided by the play-in stage, where the Chinese and Korean fourth seeds will start along with the European third and fourth seed and the North American third seed.

  • Korea (LCK) – 1st seed, 2nd seed, 3rd seed
  • China (LPL) – 1st seed, 2nd seed, 3rd seed
  • North America (LCS) – 1st seed, 2nd seed
  • Europe (LEC) – 1st seed, 2nd seed
  • Vietnam (VCS) – 1st seed
  • Southeast Asia (PCS) – 1st seed

24 teams across the world will take part in one of the biggest international events of the year. 12 play-in teams will be fighting for a spot in the group stage, while others have their eyes set on the knockout stages. Riot Games has yet to announce ticketing details.
