Leviathan Rising Limited Time Event Is Out Next Week

DICE and Electronic Arts announced Battlefield 2042: Leviathan Rising, a new limited time event coming next week to the multiplayer first-person shooter game.

Due to start on Tuesday, April 11th and running through April 25th at 5 AM Pacific Time (12 PM UTC), Battlefield 2042: Leviathan Rising adds a new Shutdown played over two rounds by two teams of eight players each. Each match is said to last around 10-15 minutes, and the teams will swap between attacker and defender roles between matches.

According to the developers, Battlefield 2042: Leviathan Rising is a highly tactical game mode centered around the ESA-500 Lance. This portable microwave device can be planted by attackers wherever they want inside the objective areas. The attacking team will earn points for as long as the Lance stays active; eventually, it will cause a shutdown, which gives the mode its name. At this point, the objective in that area will be fully cleared up and the attackers can then move on to the remaining objectives. Defenders will, of course, want to disable the ESA-500 Lange by interacting with it – provided that they aren’t killed beforehand by their rivals.

Shutdown mode is available in smaller layouts of the following maps: Flashpoint, Stranded, Exposure, and Manifest.

Needless to say, Battlefield 2042: Leviathan Rising introduces new rewards, such as Ribbons earnable when playing the Shutdown mode, as well as free bundles and three premium bundles.

Battlefield 2042 has had a bit of a resurgence lately, between the return of the class system (strongly requested by the community), new content and improvements, and various promotions like offering the game as part of the PlayStation Plus Essential list of March and making it free to access for three days on Steam a couple of weeks ago. While Battlefield 2042 support continues, DICE and the new Seattle-based studio Ridgeline Games are working together on a new title that will also include a single player campaign.
