Lisa Marie Presley, the singer-songwriter and only child of Elvis Presley, has died at the age of 54.
As reported by Variety, Presley was hospitalized on the morning of Thursday, January 12, after suffering cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California. She was rushed to the hospital after paramedics performed CPR, but sadly passed away shortly after.
“Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie,” reads a family statement. “They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.”
Lisa Marie and her mother, Priscilla, were in attendance at the 80th Golden Globe awards and were able to see Austin Butler win the Golden Globe for his performance as Elvis in the 2022 film of the same name. They also attended a pre-Globes party where the “family honored what would have been the King of Rock ‘n Roll’s 88th birthday.”
“I am so overwhelmed by this film and the effect that it’s had and what Austin’s done. I’m so proud. I know that my father would also be very proud,” Lisa Marie said at the event.
Lisa Marie Presley was born on February 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, and was the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley. Her parents divorced when she was just five years old and her father, Elvis, passed away when she was just nine.
At the age of 25, she inherited Elvis Presley’s entire estate, and it included her father’s mansion, Graceland. She ended up selling 85% of the estate – which was estimated to be worth roughly $100 million – to Industrial Media in 2005, but kept control of Graceland.
She took after her father and became a singer-songwriter and released her first album, “To Whom It May Concern,” in 2003. It was a certified gold album and she would follow it up with “Now What” and “Storm & Grace.”
Lisa was married four times, and her husbands included Danny Keough, Michael Jackson, Nicolas Cage, and Michael Lockwood. She had four children, and one of her daughters, Riley Keough, has starred in films like Zola, The Devil All the Time, and Mad Max: Fury Road. In 2020, she lost her son, Benjamin Keough, to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Lisa was very involved in charity work through the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation, Oprah Winfrey’s Angel Network, and the Dream Factory.
She is survived by her mother, Priscilla, her three daughters, and a half-brother, Navarone Garibaldi.
