A gruesome video of a man hacking another man to death with a machete is circulating on social media. It has been claimed that the incident took place in an Islamic country and the victim is a non-Muslim.
Alt News is not attaching the video in this article or hyperlinking any posts due to the graphic nature of the clip.
Alt News has also received verification requests for the video on its WhatsApp helpline number (+91 76000 11160).
A reverse-image search of one of the keyframes of the video took us to an Arabic website that said the incident occurred in Ismailia, Egypt.
A subsequent keyword search to look for news reports took us to several media outlets that reported on the incident in December 2021.
According to a website called archyde.com, Abdul Rahman Dabour, 30, slaughtered 42-year-old Muhammad al-Sadiq. The website middleeast.in-24.com also reported that the victim was Sadiq. The alleged motive behind the murder was an ‘illicit’ relationship between the victim and the accused’s mother.
The incident was reported by several other websites.
Gulf News quoted a local media outlet to report that the accused was sentenced to death “on charges of slaughtering another on the street and parading his head before he was overpowered in the Suez Canal city of Ismailia.” The article also said that Dabour injured two passers-by during the murder.
According to Egypt Today, the accused’s lawyers argued that he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crime. However, the prosecution said, “A forensic report revealed that the defendant did not show any symptoms of mental or psychological disturbance that might have affected his awareness and will during the crime.”
