Cristiano Ronaldo was furious after he was taken off in the second half of Manchester United’s game against Brentford on Wednesday. The Red Devils were cruising and 2-0 up at the time courtesy of goals from Anthony Elanga and Mason Greenwood. But Ronaldo was still unhappy with being substituted, and visibly showed his frustration.

But despite this many are still not convinced by Rangnick and the job he has done since coming in.

Speaking ahead of the clash, former Red Devils defender Rio Ferdinand said when analysing the recent draw with Aston Villa: “Progress? I’d say first 20 minutes, half an hour max. 

“The big thing for me is they fail to manage their games. In the game, game management is key.  

“He spoke about improving players and team performance when he got here – I haven’t seen that consistently at all if much in the majority of the players.  

“It’s been disappointing to see in that respect.” 

On United’s mentality, Ferdinand went on to add: “Those little details about when you press in a game, what the score is, do you press at that point in the game? Sometimes you need leaders on the pitch to orchestrate that, to dictate when players go.

“I remember when I played, you’d have people jumping out – younger players who are inexperienced maybe – and you get on to them, you scream at them. I don’t see that enough in this team at the moment.”

United’s next game is a clash with West Ham next Saturday in the Premier League.

And they then have a comfortable-looking FA Cup fourth-round tie against Championship side Middlesbrough.
