Nintendo just announced that the upcoming Ubisoft-developed Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope will be receiving paid DLC content post-launch. This was revealed when the company released a promotion for the game’s Gold Edition which will include a season pass for the DLC, as well three exclusive weapon skins, known as the Galactic Prestige Collection. These skins will be available for you to use at the start of the game. Not much is known about the DLC content but both Ubisoft and Nintendo confirm that it will include at least one new playable character.
The Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Gold Edition is currently priced at $89.99 USD and can be pre-ordered at Nintendo’s online store here. As of now, it’s unclear whether the season pass will be purchasable on its own, however, we can infer that it will most likely be priced at $29.99 based on the price difference between the Gold Edition and the base game.
The Nintendo store page states that the season pass will include ‘DLC packs’, which will each have new stories, playable characters, quests, and battles. On the other hand, a Ubisoft article that details the Gold Edition showcases a promotional picture that describes the DLC slightly differently. As seen below, it says that the season pass will bring “upcoming exciting adventures with a new playable character,” with the implication being that their may be a singular additional character rather than multiple.
For context, the Donkey Kong Adventure DLC for the previous Mario + Rabbids game featured two new playable characters in Donkey Kong and Rabbid Cranky.
The original Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, released in 2017, was rare in the sense that Nintendo doesn’t often let other studios develop a game based on its most precious IP, Mario. However, the game was an unexpected fan favorite, with it receiving plaudits for its animation and strategy mechanics. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope eliminates the prior grid system and allows you to position yourself and line up attacks by moving freely in a circular area. The sequel also adds unique abilities per character, like a sleeping ability for Rabbid Rosalina, or a counterattack for Rabbid Mario.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope will be released on October 20 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
