Lineker is now set to return to host Match of the Day after the international break on April 1. Alan Shearer was one of the pundits who stood in solidarity with Lineker last week.
The Newcastle legend was back in the studio with Lineker, along with Micah Richards, for the BBC’s coverage of City’s clash with Burnley. And Shearer issued a heartfelt message to viewers before any pre-match analysis regarding last week’s controversy.
“I just need to clear up and wanted to say how upset we were for the audience that missed out last weekend,” Shearer said. “It was a really difficult situation for everyone concerned and, through no fault of their own, some really great people in TV and radio were put in an impossible situation and that wasn’t fair, so it’s good to get back to some sort of normality and be talking about football again.”
