Meghan Markle imitated Kate Middleton when she joined Royal Family – expert claims

Photography experts at Parrot Print spoke to Express.co.uk about the different poses each member of the Royal Family has adopted. Interestingly, some poses are the same, while others are completely unique to that person.

The experts revealed that there is one pose named the “Duchess slant”, which was named after Kate, the Princess of Wales, once she started to attend public royal engagements after joining the Royal Family.

It was clearly taught to the Princess – or the Duchess of Cambridge at the time – as this pose was also adopted by Meghan Markle when she began to attend the same sorts of engagements.

This pose involves sitting up straight with legs placed parallel and slanted to one side.

Parrot Print experts explained to Express.co.uk why they think Meghan imitated Kate with this pose.

The experts continued: “The Queen attended every kind of formal occasion during her long life and the Queen’s clasped hands pose worked for each occasion because it is controlled, neutral and consistent.”

This is the pose Prince William used in the most recent portrait of himself, Kate, Queen Consort Camilla, and King Charles, released earlier this month.

William also often adopts the “wide stance” pose, where he stands with his legs wide apart.

This is how he stands in the latest portrait too, while Kate stands next to him with her feet touching each other.

Members of the Royal Family always look photogenic in photographs, and there may be a variety of reasons why.

The experts at Parrot Print said: “The Royal Family are well versed in the tips and tricks that make them appear more photogenic than the average man or woman in the street.

“They are always either holding their hands in a certain position or in the case of Kate, have something in their hands like a handbag.

“This helps them look comfortably natural as does never making direct eye contact with the camera.

“We warm to people who appear to be themselves rather than someone else and the camera warms to the natural look too.”

Royals often smile in photographs too, but Parrot Print experts noted that “it is only very recently that the royals have started cracking smiles when their likeness are being recorded”.

“Before the modern age, monarchs embodied power and their portraits showcased that power and authority,” they explained.

“Much comment was made when the Queen cracked a smile showing her teeth in her 88th birthday official photograph.

“Today, royals show their teeth and portray a much more informal relatable side of themselves to camera than they ever have before.”
