Holly, who has amassed a huge following posting about her money saving deals on her website and Instagram account @hollyvlogs, advised enlisting your children to write to their favourite food brands.

The financially savvy mum, who runs the Facebook community Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, and her daughter have bagged £200 worth of food using the tactic.

Holly said: “If there’s a rainy day, get your kids to write letters to brands or draw pictures.

“What I like to do is sit my kids down and tell them where their food has come from.

“My daughter really loves sausages, so we sat down and drew a picture, which we sent to the company.”

“They came with a really cute letter, which I still have to this day.

“The company sent us a photograph of the farmer, and the farmer is on his tractor holding up the kids’ drawing.”

Holly went on: “My daughter loves sausages. She sent another drawing of a sausage packet to a sausage company and they sent £10 worth of coupons back.”

She went on: “So, sit your kids down and get them to draw and write letters to their favourite brands.

“Companies can now share them on social media and get engagement, and that’s worth £1,000s.

“So, you know if your kids are bored, you can teach them about where food comes from and ask if they would like to write a letter to the brands.

“That’s what I do and I think not only is it educational, it’s also rewarding.

“It gives them something to do and when they get to see the replies, they absolutely love it.”

Holly also advised Express.co.uk on how to cash in on vouchers, even during the pandemic – when paper coupons have been thin on the ground.

The money saving guru advised: “It used to be paper coupons, but now it’s all about cashback apps, and there’s a lot of them.”

In particular, Holly suggested four coupon apps, Shopmium, CheckoutSmart, GreenJinn, and ClickSnap.

The money guru explained: “These are apps you download and they will show you basically what deals are available.”
