New Google Camera app rolling out for more Pixel phones

Google usually rolls out the new version of the Google Camera app with the latest models of its Pixel phone lineup. The tech giant unveiled version 8.7 of Google Camera with the Pixel 7 series in October and since then the updated app has been an exclusive for this lineup. According to a report by 9to5Google, the company is now rolling out the new Google Camera app for older Pixel phones (excluding Pixel 7 and 7 Pro). Google has also recently released a minor update to the Google Camera app for the Pixel 7 series which enables the Macro Focus mode on the Pixel 7 Pro. This minor update will also be included in the latest version of the Camera app which has already started arriving for supported Pixel phones, including the Pixel 6 series.

As per the report, the new version of the Google Camera app was spotted on the Pixel 6 Pro. This update is expected to roll out via the Play Store to all currently supported Pixel phones, including the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4a.

The new version of the Google Camera app includes a similar suite of changes that arrived with the Pixel 7 series. Pixel users can now double-tap the viewfinder in the app to switch between 1x and 2x zoom. Moreover, Google has also added the Familiar Faces feature which has made a comeback after it was disabled by the company in May.

Google Camera’s new version also makes it easier for users to choose where the pictures are saved. Users can long-pressing the preview of their last photo to check whether it is saved in the gallery or some other Locked Folder.
However, this new update has missed out on a feature which is available for the Pixel 7 series. It is the ability to fine-tune the amount of exposure time taken for Night Sight shots. Pixel 7 users can adjust it by tapping an indicator located to the right of the zoom slider. Meanwhile, other Pixel devices use an automatic timer for Night Sight.
