Nintendo of America President Believes the Switch has “A Few Years Left”

The Nintendo Switch has made its run way longer than any of the usual console generations. Currently, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser believes that despite this setback, the Switch still has more time left before its successor comes around. This was said in an interview with The Associated Press at the Super Nintendo Sworld attraction in Universal Studios Hollywood before its grand opening on February 17.

In the interview, the President of the company talked about how video games have become a prominent form of entertainment, especially during the times of COVID-19. He added that the industry had seen worthwhile growth over the last few years and also talked about future plans regarding upcoming Nintendo attractions. The point expressed in this article came when Associated Press asked the executive about when the next Switch would be coming out.

At that question, Doug Bowser responded with the following:

As we enter the seventh year for the Nintendo Switch, sales are still strong. I think we still have a very, very strong lineup coming. As Mr. Furukawa said recently, we’re entering uncharted territory with the platform. It’s exciting to see that demand is still there. So nothing to announce on any future console or device, but we are still feeling very bullish about Nintendo Switch.

I should be careful about what I personally would like to see [in a new Switch]. But what I can share is that one of the reasons that even going into year seven we feel very confident that the Switch can have a strong performance over the next few years is that it is still truly that unique device that you can play in a variety of ways, at home, on the go.

So, it seems like the President of Nintendo of America firmly believes that the Nintendo Switch will still live on for a few more years, thanks to its uniqueness as a hybrid console that works both at home and portably. The belief is only reinforced thanks to the launch of successful titles like Metroid Prime 4, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and upcoming games such as Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon and The Legend of Zelda: tears of the Kingdom.

It’s easy to assume that the console will still have a strong 2023. Whether or not that strength will continue beyond the year and into 2024 and subsequent years remains to be seen. For now, we at least know a more concise answer about when we’re going to get some new developments about the “next switch”. Stay tuned for more developments.
