The Dolphins have signed one-time Queensland State of Origin winger Edrick Lee on a two-year deal.

Lee, 29, will leave Newcastle at season’s end to join the NRL’s newest team, which debuts in the competition next year.

It comes a week after the Dolphins announced the signing of Robert Jennings, who will combine with Lee and Jamayne Isaako in the outside backs.

Lee has played 121 NRL games for the Raiders, Sharks, and Knights. Last season he was plagued by injury and was barely sighted on the field at all.

He also represented the Maroons in game three of the 2020 Origin series, in which Wayne Bennett miraculously steered an underdog Queensland side to victory against all odds.

Lee will reunite with Bennett at the Dolphins.

“We have seen Edrick’s class at the highest level and are excited he will be part of the Dolphins’ first ever team,” Dolphins CEO Terry Reader said.

“We have also admired the fight Edrick has shown to make his way back from a series of foot injuries to re-establish himself in the NRL.

“It is this type of attitude that gives us confidence he will be a major contributor for the Dolphins in 2023 and beyond.

“The Dolphins are pleased to be able to bring another Queensland product back to their home state to be part of a historic time for the club.”
