OnePlus to Launch 5G Smartphones in 2019; Carl Pei Confirmed

0

During the 4G/5G Summit 2018 at Hong Kong, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pie confirmed that OnePlus will be one of the first to launch a 5G smartphone in 2019. He also revealed that they have already conducted a successful 5G test back in August this year at Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego.

As we have mentioned above, this announcement took place during the Qualcomm 4G/5G Summit 2018, where Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon and Carl Pei came together on stage to discuss their ‘5G leadership plans’. Pie said that they will be releasing a 5G smartphone next year. If their 5G smartphone will really be released next year, it will be among the key tech companies that are bringing technology into a higher level.

It will be a hard competition as OnePlus is going to compete with big tech companies such as Samsung, Huawei, and many others with the development of the 5G connectivity, and we might see its complete performance in the coming months. This 5G smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon X50 modem with the downsized QTM052 mmWave antenna module, as announced at the conference.

As per the reports, Qualcomm has revealed some further information about the first batch of 5G Snapdragon handsets that will become available in 2019. Cristiano Amon also said that the company expects at least two flagship 5G smartphones to be released next year, one of the handsets in the first half of the year, and the other one in the second half.

Aside from OnePlus, companies such as Asus, Fujitsu, HMD Global, HTC, Inseego/ Novatel Wireless, LG, Motorola, NetComm Wireless, Netgear, Oppo, Sharp, Sierra Wireless, Sony Mobile, Telit, Vivo, WNC, and Xiaomi were announced to have a plan on implementing the 5G technology next year, and their handsets will be powered by the Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem as well.

Further information is not clear yet, such as the name of the two handsets coming next year. This might be all cleared in incoming months, so stay tuned with TechnoCodex to be always updated.
