Brisbane lock Patrick Carrigan has been referred straight to the judiciary for a hip drop tackle on Tigers playmaker Jackson Hastings.

Scans have found a broken leg for Hastings as a result of the incident, meaning his season is over. He will undergo surgery.

Carrigan was the third man in the tackle and dropped his weight on the back of Hastings’ legs, causing the ball-carrier to limp off the field.

“I thought the tackle was a pretty ordinary tackle,” coach Brett Kimmorley said after the Tigers’ 32-18 win.

“It is something that has crept into the game a little bit and it needs to be looked after, because it’s a horrendous tackle and the outcome can be really bad.”

Carrigan will front the judiciary on Tuesday night.

Tom Burgess is facing 1-2 games suspension for a high tackle on Ronaldo Mulitalo, while Raiders firebrand Joseph Tapine can accept a $1000 for punching David Fifita.
