Souths may have come up short the last time they faced off with Penrith, but Brad Fittler noted a change in strategy that nearly paid dividends.

“When they last played, South Sydney scored 22 points – and one thing that’s different, more than ever, is the amount of input Cam Murray has,” he said on Wide World of Sport’s Freddy and the Eighth.

“And what he also does is he also shifts the ball out of trouble a little bit – three times, I think it was, they got them down that left-hand side.”

Souths made eight line breaks in that loss back in August, including six in the first half – although they came up short due to some sloppy handling, and another Stephen Crichton intercept, just as he did in last year’s title game.

“If you go back to the grand final, Souths have never shifted out of trouble.

“They wait for a penalty, or wait to get down the other end and then they just strike – Cody threw the intercept because they weren’t used to shifting out of trouble, now they are.

“They did it effectively against the best team in the comp, and they got them three times.”
