Singer Peter Andre, 50, and NHS doctor Emily MacDonagh, 33, tied the knot in 2015 and have since welcomed two children together, Amelia, nine, and Theo, six.

However, in recent months the Mysterious Girl singer has been busier than ever, but Emily revealed they’ve developed a system of coping mechanisms to manage their busy schedules while spending such large amounts of time apart.

Speaking to The Sun at No7 Future Renew launch event, she admitted their busy work schedules, adding in the children’s activities, often leaves them with little time for spontaneous romance.

As a result, their date nights often take months of planning with Emily revealing Peter currently has three Saturdays off between now and August.

Emily admitted: “I always miss him when he’s away”, and refuses to touch his side of the bed when he’s gone.

She leaves the pillows, blankets and covers exactly where they are on Peter’s side so when she lays in bed at night “I almost feel that he’s still there”.

Although it may seem like an extreme lifestyle, Emily claims their relationship has always looked somewhat like this, adding: “He’s always gone away a lot since we’ve been together.”

The mum-of-two insisted adjusting to each other’s unique and busy schedules has only strengthened their relationship, adding it helps that Peter is only ever away “for little bits” at a time.

Proving this, Emily revealed Peter had been away the night before but was babysitting the children while she was at the launch.

When they do manage to get some downtime together, the pair go big, as Emily added: “We went away together to Dubai to celebrate his 50th birthday – we had a week away from the kids and a week with the kids, which was amazing.

“We did a few extra bits to celebrate – we’re going to try and get a night away together at some point.”

For Peter’s birthday this year, all the singer wants is “a night away with you”, or at least that’s what he told Emily and it has proved to be a surprisingly tall order.

Emily shared: “We haven’t gone yet, he’s been too busy – at some point in May. I’m trying to find a day that Pete’s off and from now till August he’s got about three Saturdays.”
