Pixel Tablet reveal could tempt over iPad and Galaxy Tab fans

Google will be holding a high-profile event later tomorrow where the Android makers will reveal a swathe of shiny new devices. The Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel Watch are all confirmed as appearing during the Made By Google event – but the Mountain View firm could also have one other surprise up its sleeve. That’s the Pixel Tablet, the eagerly anticipated new gadget from Google that is launching in 2023.

While the company hasn’t confirmed that the Pixel Tablet will be appearing at its showcase it wouldn’t be a surprise for it to pop up.

Confirmed details on the Pixel Tablet remain under wraps but we do know the Google tablet will be closely aligned with other Pixel products.

This was confirmed by Google when they unveiled the Pixel Tab back at I/O 2022 in May.

During the reveal, it was announced: “It’s a next-generation Android tablet, powered by Google Tensor, designed to be a perfect companion for your Pixel phone.

“The tablet bridges your on-the-go life with your at-home life, working seamlessly with all your Pixel devices to provide the most helpful, experience possible.

“We’re designing it to be the most helpful tablet in the world, and we’re aiming to make it available next year.”

From what Google has said so far, it looks like there are a few things fans can expect.

The promise of the Pixel Tablet “working seamlessly” with all other Pixel devices and being the “perfect companion” for a Pixel phone hints at a number of features.

This includes upgrades like starting something on your Pixel phone and then continuing that on a Pixel Tablet – whether that’s your progress in an app or controlling your entertainment across different devices.

The latter is already one of the features confirmed for the Pixel 7 range. Outlining this Google said: “If you’re listening to music or watching a show, you can play, pause, rewind and adjust the volume from your phone, earbuds, or watch.”

So it sounds like you will soon be able to add ‘tablet’ to this list of devices you’ll be able to control entertainment across.

Elsewhere, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Pixel Tablet also take advantage of Fast Pair.

This feature is available for the upcoming Pixel Watch along with the Pixel Buds Pro and Pixel phones and lets people quickly connect multiple Pixel devices with one another.

Google’s initial reveal for the Pixel Tablet could also hint at another upcoming feature with it designed to be “the most helpful tablet in the world”.

And this could add weight to rumours that the Pixel Tablet will actually double up as a Nest Hub smart device.

Earlier this year a leak claimed Google had a new Nest Hub in the works with a detachable display that’s powered by Android 13.

But given everything Google has so far said about the Pixel Tablet, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this alleged new Nest Hub is actually the Pixel Tablet.

Google seemed to refer to some smart home features in its new tablet during its reveal when they said it will be a bridge between home and on the go life.

One way this could work is the Pixel Tablet will simply have an additional at-home dock where users can plug the tablet into which transforms into a Nest Hub-style device.

This unique functionality would also surely help make up for the fact the design of the Pixel Tablet looks dated, boasting thick bezels reminiscent of tablets released years ago.

It hasn’t been confirmed whether the Pixel Tablet will be appearing at this Thursday’s Made By Google event or not but there’s not long to find out.

The Made By Google event is taking place in New York, but will also be streamed around the world on YouTube.

The event kicks off on Thursday October 5 at 7am pacific time, 10am eastern time, 3pm BST and 4pm CEST.

Express.co.uk will be bringing you all the big news from the major Google event.
