The day Pokemon GO came into existence, cheating became an inevitable part as the mobile AR experience wants players to travel to different physical locations for raids or spawns. Nonetheless, numerous players tried to exploit the game by using GPS ‘spoofing’ to appear at different spots on the map without actually travelling to them. Now Niantic to tackle the cheating came with three-strike discipline policy which surfaced in Niantic’s latest blog post.
The policy clearly defines who qualifies as a violator of rules of the game and as if you are spoofing your location to access regional exclusives or trying something else fraudulently and caught thrice your account will be permanently banned.
“Everyone can make mistakes,” the developer wrote. “That’s why we have created this policy to enable offenders to learn from their mistakes and change their ways. If you have been issued a strike, don’t ignore it. Take action to ensure that you do not commit any further transgressions.”
Niantic has set three stages strikes before a player gets a permanent ban –warning, suspension and termination. Each strike serves as a warning and Niantic created this policy in order for a player to ‘learn from the mistakes and change the way of playing.’ The full three-step process is outlined below.
Strike 1: Warning
In the first stage, disciplinary action would be taken in which player will be issued warning message within Pokemon GO app regarding cheating has been caught and in addition, the gameplay experience may be degraded and will be banned from rare Pokémon in the wild. These Pokémons may not appear on the map or on the Nearby Pokémon tracker. You may be excluded from receiving new EX Raid Passes. The duration of the ban would be approx 7 days
Strike 2: Suspension
After the first strike if your account gets the second strike you will temporarily lose access to the account and message of suspension would pop-up at the time of entering game, this time the strike would last for 30 days after which the account could be used.
Strike 3: Termination
Even after the second strike if one fails to mend ways, the third and final strike would put a ban forever losing the account. Hope that players would try to be fair to retain their accounts and stay away from cheating.
