Police have confirmed that a Premier League footballer has been arrested on suspicion of rape. The player is unable to be named for legal reasons, but is currently in custody and being quizzed by officers
Scotland Yard have confirmed in a statement that the man was taken into custody in the early hours of Monday morning. The statement from the Met Police, as published by The Telegraph, read: “On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police.
“It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
The club in question has declined to comment on the matter. It is not clear whether or not he will take part in their pre-season fixture schedule.
