Premium Bonds: Are they better than savings? BoE base rate could make a difference | Personal Finance | Finance

Those with £5,000 invested have average winnings of just £25 while those with £30,000 have average winnings of £250.

However, those with the maximum amount allowed in Premium Bonds, £50,000 have average median winnings of just £450, a prize rate or interest rate of 0.9 percent.

With this in mind, Premium Bonds do seem to beat out easy access accounts at the moment only when one maxes out their contributions.

However, this may not be the case for much longer if the base rate rise is passed onto savers directly, in which case there will likely be many announcements coming much to savers’ delight.
