Prince George and siblings will follow royal protocol at school

The Cambridge children will begin classes at Lambrook school near Ascot, Berkshire, on September 8. The siblings were at St Thomas’ Battersea before school broke for the summer holidays. Here, they were known not as their royal highnesses, but other names entirely. They also had nicknames. What were they?

It is likely the Cambridges’ new classmates will call them by the same names as they were called at St Thomas’ Battersea school.

They will not be called by their royal titles, but rather by their parents’ titles.

It is royal protocol for royal children to be called by the title of their parents at school – for example, William and Harry were called William Wales and Harry Wales after Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales.

George, Charlotte and Louis will therefore be called by their first name, followed by “Cambridge”.

The Cambridge children all have royal titles, and therefore that’s why they will be linked to their parents’ dukedoms at school.

However, their cousins, Archie and Lilibet, will not bear their parents’ titles at school.

Instead of being Archie Sussex and Lilibet Sussex, Meghan and Harry’s children will always be referred to as the Mountbatten-Windsors.

This is the siblings’ official surname because they don’t have a royal title – neither are a Prince or a Princess.

Charlotte is also said to have a nickname. While it isn’t clear if her classmates use her nickname, Charlotte’s parents call her by different names.

At the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show, Prince William was heard calling Charlotte over to him as the family visited a garden designed by Kate.

Instead of calling his daughter Charlotte, William said “Mignonette”, which translates as “little cutie” or “small and delicate” in French.

It is understood that the Cambridges also shorten Charlotte’s name to “Lottie”.

When William and Kate were touring Northern Ireland in 2019, one woman in the crowd was asked by Kate about her son.

The woman later told the Daily Mail: “I said he is four and she said, ‘oh, he’s the same age as Lottie’. She calls her Lottie.”

“She calls her Lottie.”

As for Louis, George and Charlotte call their brother “Lou Lou”, according to Life & Style magazine.
