Razer’s 5G-Enabled Gaming Handheld Gets January Release Date

We already knew that Razer and Verizon were teaming up to make Edge, a gaming handheld with 5G connectivity. And today, as part of its CES 2023 announcements, Razer announced that the device is launching on January 26th.

Announced last October during RazerCon 2022, the Razer Edge features a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400×1800 and a refresh rate of 144Hzz. The device uses the Android operating system and is confirmed to run Android 12.

The device’s display is compatible with the Kishi V2 Pro — a modified version of the Kishi V2 controller for Android and iOS that not only support rumble but includes a headphone jack, two things the standard Kishi V2 does not offer.

While the device is touted for its 5G connectivity, Razer previously confirmed that a Wi-Fi-only option would be available. Pricing starts at $399.99 for the Wi-Fi model, while the 5G variant will cost $599.99. However, Verizon notes that for a limited (and unspecified) time, you can get the 5G-enabled variant for $359.99 when you add it as a new line to your account.

The Razer Edge is another handheld device that offers those who want to stream their favorite games on cloud services like GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud gaming. Of course, this Android device will play Android games, too.

The Razer Edge joins a slowly growing market of dedicated gaming handhelds designed with cloud gaming services in mind but can run Android apps, too. The other one is the Logitech G Cloud.
