Resident Evil 4 Remake Mercenaries mode is a fan-favourite, post-game mode from the long-running series, but was missing from the Resident Evil 4 Remake at launch. Thankfully for players of the hotly-anticipated remake, Capcom has confirmed that the mode is now available.

The Resident Evil 4 Remake release date has finally arrived, bringing what is widely accepted as one of the best PC games back for a new generation. We join Leon Kennedy after the destruction of Raccoon City, as he finds himself in Spain among the terrifying Las Plagas infected Ganados. The good news is that after a short wait, the Mercenaries mode has now arrived in the survival horror game.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Mercenaries release date

The Resident Evil 4 Remake Mercenaries release date is April 7. That means you can play it right now, and Capcom has released a trailer showing off a quick glimpse at the survival mode to celebrate its arrival.

As the trailer says, the content is free to owners of the base game. This was previously confirmed by Edvin Edso, promotion producer of Resident Evil 4 Remake, in a PlayStation blog.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Mercenaries details

All we’ve officially seen of the latest The Mercenaries DLC so far is the game mode’s title over a backdrop of the Spanish “Pueblo” in which you first come across the Ganados. Presumably, as with the original Resident Evil 4 Mercenaries mode, there will be multiple maps to choose from including the village itself.

What we do know is that the reward for completing The Mercenaries will differ. In the original, earning 60,000 points as each of the four characters earned you the handcannon, one of the best Resident Evil 4 weapons. However, while the handcannon is still one of the Resident Evil 4 unlockables in the remake, it’s now the reward for finishing the game on Professional Mode without using bonus weapons. Once we know more about what rewards can be earned from The Mercenaries, and how true the mode is to the original, we’ll let you know.

The Mercenaries leaked playable characters

Thanks to some datamined information that has been surfacing online, we have some idea of the playable characters that might be appearing in the upcoming Resident Evil 4 Remake Mercenaries mode. We say “might”, because we don’t want to believe anything until it’s official, and anything we say here could be subject to change. That said, we’re pretty excited about the changes that have been leaked for The Mercenaries remake.

According to the datamined information from the biohazarddoctor on Twitter, the playable characters in the Resident Evil 4 Remake The Mercenaries mode are:

  • Leon S Kenney
  • Ada Wong
  • Jack Krauser
  • Albert Wesker
  • Luis Serra
  • HUNK

This adds two characters to the roster from the original Resident Evil 4 Mercenaries mode: Luis and HUNK. The biohazarddoctor has also revealed two outfits for Leon and Ada in The Mercenaries, and the in-game descriptions for each character:

Leon S Kennedy

Leon is an all-around, balanced fighter. During Mayhem Mode, his abilities including attack power and speed are greatly increased.

Ada Wong

Ada has a variety of weapons to deal with any situation. During Mayhem Mode, her abilities including attack power and speed are greatly increased.

Jack Krauser

Krauser has strong melee attacks and explosive arrows at his disposal. During Mayhem Mode, he mutates and can deal close-quarter attacks or thrust attacks

Albert Wesker

Wesker can parry with his hands and even deliver melee attacks on distant enemies. During Mayhem Mode, he is able to perform combo melee attacks.

Luis Serra

Luis has good firepower but weak close-quarter abilities. During Mayhem Mode, he can set dynamite which explodes after a certain amount of time or when shot.

HUNK

Hunk not only has a high-performance submachine gun but also a unique melee attack that can kill instantly. During Mayhem Mode, he gains unlimited ammo.

Again, this could all change before the mode is released on April 7, and any of this information should be taken with a pinch of salt until officially announced by Capcom.

That’s everything you need to know about the Resident Evil 4 Mercenaries mode release date, so you’ve got plenty of time to make the most out of the base game before it arrives.
