Samsung Unveils Foldable Smartphone that Opens into a Tablet

After years of waiting for some huge technology leap, Samsung had made a device that might become a game changer in the coming years. The company has unveiled a foldable smartphone with 7.3-inch inner and 4.6-inch outer display.

Samsung has unveiled the device in its developer’s conference held in San Francisco. To cover its special aspects, the company demonstrated a disguise device and deemed the lights to keep the level of secrecy.

Justin Denison, Samsung senior vice president of mobile marketing, showcased that the phone can be a tablet when it is fully opened, and a phone when it is closed. The device uses Infinity Flex Display, a display technology that lets you open and close the device repetitively without any degradation.

To ensure the high capability of this phone, Samsung put an effort into its development. “Since glass is not pliable, we developed a new material for the cover window that’s flexible and durable. And to ensure the reliability of the display, we found a unique adhesive that enhances the display’s elasticity and keeps its strength even when ifs folded and unfolded over and over again,” the company says.

Aside from the display technology, Samsung has also stated that an external cover screen will be available for regular smartphone type features, such as using applications without opening the device. But when the tablet functionality is used, the device will remember where you left off on an app when using the outer display, and will display the same in the inner screen.

This Samsung foldable device has a 7.3-inch display when using the tablet mode (when open), and a 4.6-inch display on the outside when the phone is folded. The outer 4.6-inch display has a 21:9 aspect ratio, 840 x 1960 resolution, 420 PPI, and on the other hand, the 7.3-inch inner display has 1536 x 2152 pixels and with the same pixel density as the outer one.

This foldable phone is powered by Android as Google is officially supporting new foldable devices. Aside from that, everything is yet to be unveiled. So stay tuned with TechnoCodex and we will bring you all of its utmost updates.
