This year, there won’t be a ‘Fan Edition‘ Galaxy S series smartphone. According to a report in South Korean publication, The Elec, Samsung has scrapped the Galaxy S22 FE‘s development due to more than expected demand for its top-of-the-line Galaxy S22 Ultra. But, the ‘Fan Edition’ series is here to stay.
A few weeks ago, SamMobile, reported that Samsung had cancelled the Galaxy S22 FE, but the report did not mention the reason behind Samsung’s move. Now, a report from Elec sheds some light on why Samsung is not launching the Galaxy S-series Fan Edition this year. The latest report suggests that the move comes because of the strong sales of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which were much higher than what Samsung initially expected.
The chip shortage has been a major issue for smartphone manufacturers for quite some time now. If the report is to be believed, Samsung planned to produce 3 million units of Galaxy S22 FE this year. The Galaxy S22 FE was going to have the same chipset as the Galaxy S22 Ultra, i.e., Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200. So, the South Korean giant reportedly decided to reallocate its resources to fulfil the stronger than expected demand for Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Samsung planned to ship 10 million Galaxy S22 Ultra units this year, and the company has moved past its goal, and is still going strong. So, Samsung wants to cash in on the success of the Galaxy S22 Ultra rather than starting from scratch with the Galaxy S22 FE. Also, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a much higher profit margin than the Fan Edition Galaxy S-series smartphone.
Galaxy Fan Edition is here to stay
While Samsung fans may not get to see the Galaxy F22 FE edition, the Galaxy Fan Edition series per se is not going anywhere. The report says that Samsung will return with the Galaxy S23 Fan Edition in 2023. We can also expect Samsung to continue selling the current generation Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy S21 FE 5G until the next Fan Edition Galaxy S-series smartphone comes out.
