Richmond star Shai Bolton has taken an early Mark of the Year contender in a tightly-contested season-opener against Carlton at the MCG.
Bolton took the stunning grab in the second quarter as Carlton looked to exit its defensive half.
The 24-year-old showcased his incredible athleticism by skying in from the back of the pack to take the grab over each team’s ruckman, Toby Nankervis and Tom De Koning.

Bolton is no stranger to high-flying exploits having won the Mark of the Year award during the 2021 season.
The WA native is considered one of the most exciting young players in the competition and was named in the 2022 All-Australian team after a breakout season where he kicked 43 goals.
Bolton shunned interest from both West Coast and Fremantle to sign a five-year extension with Richmond in the off-season.
“I have loved the club since I got drafted. I love the culture here, all the boys, the coaching staff and playing at the MCG,” he said after signing the bumper deal.
“It was pretty easy to decide in the end… I am super excited to stay here.”
