Shatrughan Sinha will start his campaign in most probability on Sunday and his campaign will be co-ordinated by state Lawyer Minister Moloy Ghatak, who hails from Asansol, Trinamool Congress sources told ET. It is also learnt that Sinha has already in discussion with Ghatak about his campaign details.
Trinamool Congress leadership has announced its candidates for two by-polls seats in Bengal on Sunday, a day after Election Commission of India (ECI) declared dates for by-polls. Actor turned politician Shatrughan Sinha will contest in Asansol Lok Sabha by-election, which was vacated following resignation of Babul Supriyo as BJP MP, Trinamool Supremo Mamata Banerjee has tweeted on Sunday.
Shatrughan Sinha will fight from Asansol Lok Sabha seat. The seat was vacated after Babul Supriyo, a junior minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet, had left the saffron party last year and joined Trinamool Congress. Supriyo had won the seat twice in 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
“I thank party Supremo Mamata Banerjee for selecting candidates. Shatrughan Sinha is a veteran politician and he will give more voice to Trinamool in Parliament in coming days,” Babul Supriyo, former Asansol MP, said. Sinha could not be reached for his comments.
“Happy to share that on an invite from our own, tigress of Bengal, tried, tested, successful honourable CM, Bengal Mamata Banerjee I have joined TMC. Shall be contesting under the dynamic leadership of a great lady, great leader of the masses in true sense, Mamata Banerjee from Asansol,” Sinha tweeted.
