YouTube’s TikTok rival Shorts may soon get a dedicated button to change the voiceover of a video. At present, YouTube Shorts users rely on third-party editing apps to record a voiceover for a video.
As spotted by XDA Developers, the video platform may add a voice over button to the YouTube app to record a track or overlay it on an existing video. This will mean that users will not have to depend on third-party apps to add a voice over to their Shorts video. It was spotted in a teardown of YouTube for Android version 17.04.32_beta. The feature is already available on TikTok.
YouTube Shorts was released in 2020 to rival short video app TikTok. It allows YouTube users to create and share short video clips up to 60 second longs within the YouTube app. Currently, users can add text to specific parts of the video, automatic captions, basic filters, and color correction. They can also add sounds from YouTube’s library to Shorts. But in case they want to add a track or a voiceover to the Shorts video, they need to record it separately and then add it using third-party apps.
The voiceover button for YouTube Shorts is not live in the latest YouTube beta for Android. Neither the company has shared any official information about it. It is likely that the feature may roll out with a future beta release. But there is no timeline known.
As stated above, YouTube Shorts was launched in September 2020. This short-video tool is Google’s answer to Instagram Reels and TikTok. Last year, the company set up a $100 million fund to reward creators for their viral videos over the course of 2021-2022. YouTube then said that the amount that creators can earn from Shorts will depend on viewership and engagement of their videos.
