Socceroos midfielder Ajden Hrustric reportedly leaving Bundesliga team Eintracht Frankfurt for Serie A team Hellas Verona

Socceroos midfielder Ajden Hrustic is set to swap the German Bundesliga for Italy’s Serie A, with reports that a transfer to Hellas Verona will be announced shortly.

Less than three months before Australia take to the field against France in their World Cup opener, Hrustic is coveting first team football – not yet featuring for the team which claimed last year’s UEFA Europa League title so far this season.

In last season’s thrilling 5-4 penalty victory over Rangers, Hrustic came off the bench in the 106th minute, slotting a spot kick for his team in the ensuing shootout.

Hellas Verona have been solidly midtable in Serie A since winning promotion via the Serie B play-offs in 2018–19; finishing ninth, tenth, and ninth in their past three campaigns.

Since the new season began, Hrustic has been battling a thigh injury and has not yet played a single minute of competitive football.

After starting just nine times in his 23 league appearances last year, he will be trying to get as many minutes as possible, as he shapes as a be key cog in Graham Arnold’s midfield in Qatar.

His value in the national team’s setup is clear to see.

The 26-year-old played 120 minutes for Australia in the thrilling win over Peru, converting in the shootout.

This came a week after his late screamer against UAE navigated Australia into that sudden death clash with the South American powerhouse.
