Sony gives an early look at PlayStation VR2 features, here’s what’s coming new

Sony is leaving no stone unturned to hype up its upcoming PlayStation VR2. The second-generation PlayStation VR is expected to debut later this year. Sony has been teasing the PS VR2 for quite some time now. In June, the company announced some exclusive titles for the upcoming virtual reality console, and now we have an early sneak peek at some of its features.
In the latest blog post, Sony revealed some of the features of the upcoming PlayStation VR2. The PS VR2 will offer new user interface features not present in the last generation of PS VR, including broadcast mode, see-through mode, and a customised play area. The PS VR2 would offer two different modes — VR and cinematic.
One of the big features coming to PS VR2 would be the ability to broadcast yourself while you are playing. The feature would allow players to stream their actions in the real world along with the gameplay. However, you will need the PS5 HD camera, which retails separately.
Another big feature of PS VR2 is the see-through view. So, the PS VR2 will have front cameras, and using them, you will be able to see where your controllers are without taking off the headset. Players can switch between seeing the surroundings or viewing the content using the function button on the headset or the card in the control centre. Sadly, you can not record anything in the see-through mode.
The cameras on the headset, along with the PS VR2 sense controllers, can also be used to create a customized play area. The cameras scan the room, and with the controllers, you can adjust the play area depending on how you want it to be. So, whenever you come close to the boundary, you will receive a warning that “you are closely approaching the play area boundary.” Also, you can set different play areas for different rooms.
Last but not the least, PS VR2 will offer a VR mode and a cinematic mode so that players can enjoy both games and media content with the headset. In VR mode, the content will be displayed in a 4000×2040 HDR format with a 90/120Hz frame rate in a 360-degree virtual environment. Meanwhile, the cinematic mode will display the PS5 system, UI and game or non-game content on a virtual game on a virtual cinema screen. The cinematic mode supports 1920×1080 HDR video format at a 24/60/120Hz frame rate.
There is no word on the availability or pricing of the PlayStation VR2. But, we can expect Sony to give more details in the coming months. Sony is reportedly aiming for a holiday 2022 release for the PS VR2, which means it could arrive by the end of this year.
