Sony rivals Apple’s AirPods with feature-packed wireless buds for £99

Apple’s AirPods might remain some of the most popular earbuds on the market but the competition keeps fighting back. Just last month, fledging tech brand Nothing revealed its latest budget music makers and now Sony is joining the more price-conscious party. The Japanese technology giant has just revealed its latest WF-C700N buds which come packed with features including noise cancelling technology and an Ambient Sound Mode – which lets you hear what’s going on around you – for under £100.

There’s also an Adaptive Sound Control which adjusts the ambient sound settings depending on where you are plus Sony is promising high-quality music playback thanks to the inclusion of a clever Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE). This clever upscaling technology is designed to enhance the quality of compressed low-quality audio files which should mean everything sounds a little crisper and packed with extra detail.

Along with that boost, owners can even change the audio to suit their tastes via the EQ settings in Sony’s smartphone app.

Other extras include 15 hours of playtime, IPX4 water resistance, Wind Noise Reduction for better phone calls outdoors and a lightweight design that should make them comfy to wear for hours on end. You can also connect them to two devices for added convenience.

Sony says its WF-C700N will be available from April 2023 and be priced at £99.99. That’s a bit of bargain considering Apple’s entry-level AirPods start from over £125.

Along with those in-ear budget buds, the company has also announced that it will be refreshing its flagship cans with the introduction of a new colour.

The WH-1000XM5 launched last year and won every award going in 2022 thanks to market-leading Active Noise Cancelling and improved audio quality.

Now they are back and will come in a new shade called Midnight Blue.

If you fancy taking delivery of these updated headphones they will also be available this month and cost £349.
