Spotify has officially acquired Heardle, the popular music trivia game that launched earlier this year.
Heardle was one of the many Wordle spin-offs that launched this year after the internet began obsessing over the daily guessing game. Unlike Wordle, Heardle has an emphasis on music, with a new clip featuring each day from some incredibly popular songs.
The aim of the game is to guess a new song each day in as few tries as possible, all whilst only listening to short snippets of the track. So it should come as no surprise that one of the biggest music streaming platforms in the world has now acquired the beloved trivia game.
The acquisition was confirmed via a Spotify news post, where the massive streaming platform announced: “that the beloved interactive music trivia game will be joining Spotify”.
The team at Spotify said that they “see Heardle as more than a trivia game: It’s also a tool for musical discovery”. So, starting from today, Heardle has officially joined the Spotify brand. It was however confirmed that the look and feel of the game will stay the same, whilst also remaining free to play for everyone. Plus, effective immediately, Heardle players can now listen to the full song on Spotify at the end of the game.
As for the future of Heardle, it appears as though there are some big plans in the pipeline. Spotify states that they are planning to integrate Heardle and other interactive experiences more fully into Spotify to allow music lovers to connect more deeply with artists and challenge friends. The streaming platform also plans to introduce Heardle to millions more people around the world as they increase the amount of languages the game is available in.
Jeremy Erlich, the Global Head of Music at Spotify, said that Heardle “aligns with our plans to deepen interactivity across the Spotify ecosystem”.
