Steam adds support for this Nintendo Switch controller

Valve usually supports almost any gamepad to offer gamers the flexibility to play games with all kinds of controllers on Steam. According to a report by XDA Developers, Valve has recently added support for the Joy-Con controllers that ship with the Nintendo Switch with the latest beta update of Steam. This update will enable Steam users to connect the Joy-Con controllers and will allow them to choose the way they want to use them.
Gamers can either use a single Joy-Con as a gamepad or can join a pair of them to form a single controller (similar to the way it is used on Nintendo Switch). Moreover, just like any other controller, gamers can also map the various buttons to whatever actions they need.
Things to know about the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controller
As per the report, the Joy-Con controller has also faced some challenges for the drift issues that affect the analogue sticks, which is also a common problem with multiple modern controllers. Meanwhile, Nintendo has shipped over 90 million Switch models that ship with Joy-Con controllers in the box as of June 30. The report suggests that these controllers if lying around idle, can now be used to play PC games.

Other Nintendo controllers supported by Steam
At the end of last month, Steam added support for Nintendo’s Switch Online controllers with an update, the report claims. These are some special controllers that are only sold to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers which include — the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, and Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive) controllers. These gamepads are less capable and less widely available, yet Valve added their support first.
How to use the Joy-Con controller with Steam games
Firstly, gamers can either sign up in their Steam settings to get beta updates or can wait for the update to roll out widely if they want to use their Joy-Con controllers with their Steam games. Apart from that, players can also choose to use the classic-style controllers that are already supported in the stable version of the platform.

However, this beta update is also expected to deliver some (unspecified) improvements for the other controllers as well. Moreover, gamers also need to note that if they are using a program like JoyToKey to use their Joy-Con on their Windows 11 PC, Steam will override that software.
