Sword Art Online -Progressive- Sequel Movie Delayed Owing to COVID-19

It was announced in June that the latest movie in Sword Art Online’s -Progressive- series, subtitled Scherzo of Deep Night was set to open in Japanese theatres on September 10. However, the movie’s official website has announced that it has now been delayed owing to COVID-19 outbreak.

Here is the statement from the movie’s producers (machine translated):

The producers also assured fans that it will notify of any future release plans as soon as they’re decided, meaning that the film has been delayed indefinitely. Japan has seen a rise in COVID-10 cases, as the Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also got infected with the virus.

The original soundtrack of the movie was also scheduled to release on September 9, a day before the movie’s release. That too, has been delayed.

The movie will adapt the Sword Art Online Progressive spin-off light novel series by Reki Kawahara that expands the Aincrad arc from the original Sword Art Online series. Scherzo of Deep Night will be a sequel of the film Sword Art Online -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night, which came out in 2021.
