For the general budget shopper, the TCL 40 series should be on the list of potentials for 2023. Do note that what TCL launched today are global variants of the series. What we’ll see in North America will be slightly different and probably even have different names, but the general gist should be the same.

The most likely US launch is the TCL 40 SE, shown above. It has a 6.75-inch Full HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Inside, it sports a 5,010mAh battery, the Mediatek Helio G37 chipset, 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, and 4GB or 6GB of RAM. TCL says this phone is specifically designed for consuming entertainment, hence the large display and big battery.

The phone also has a decent enough camera system. The main sensor is a 50MP model, which is good, but it’s flanked by 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensors, which are pretty ho-hum.

TCL is also launching the 40 R and the TCL 408. However, these phones may or may not hit North America. The 40 R is a step up over the 40 SE with a better processor, while the 408 will likely be the cheapest of the three.

Price estimates in USD for these phones will be $129 at the low end and $219 at the high. However, official US pricing is unknown, so we have no specifics as of yet.
