Telecom Sector Skill Council to establish 50 new training labs across India

Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) held an event called “Telecom Vision to 5G Skilling” to mark the occasion of its 10th anniversary, announced to place of 1.25 lakh youth and establish 50 new labs across Indiancing that it has reached a milestone of a decade of providing training for the telecom industry, with the support of government and industry partners.
In light of the acceleration of the 5G rollout in India, the need for a skilled workforce is more pressing than ever. To meet this demand, TSSC plans to train over 100,000 youth and place over 125,000 candidates in the industry through its placement programs, such as the TelcoJobs portal. Additionally, TSSC aims to establish 50 new training labs and centers of excellence across India, in both ITIs and universities, to support various industry-relevant telecom job roles. TSSC held an event called “Telecom Vision to 5G Skilling” to mark the occasion of its 10th anniversary.
TSSC announced that they have partnered with TiHAN, IIT Hyderabad, to collaborate on various projects related to skilling in new technologies like 5G, IoT, Cloud, and AI/ML. The partnership will involve working together to develop courses, address specialized projects, provide skill training, and offer other related services to help individuals acquire the skills needed for these emerging technologies.
Recently, TSSC opened 2 Centers of Excellence in Patna and the Delhi NCR region and has plans to set up an additional 3 more by the end of the fiscal year 2022-2023.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between TSSC and TiHAN, IIT Hyderabad, will last for a period of 5 years.
The goal of the partnership is to work together to identify new areas to collaborate on and provide support for building capacity for new technologies through the development of courses, labs, equipment, teaching centers, and centers of excellence.
Under the partnership, TSSC will also provide support to TiHAN through Training of Trainers (ToT) and Training of Assessors (ToA) programs and participate in government-led and private training programs on emerging technologies.
“In last few months, we have been able to conduct several programmes and one of them is to sensitise all the state governments about the upcoming opportunities in 5G roll out. It is very important that we map the job requirements of other countries and standards they require. It’s not only 5G, the upcoming semiconductor technologies, the growth of electronics manufacturing, the country and will require a range of skills which students need to be acquainted with. TSSC is also outlaying lot of money in collaboration with the industry, and it is very important for other stakeholders like state governments also to come forward in terms of laying out funds and focus on 5G and related skills for ensuring that that we lay the foundations of a digital economy across the country,” said Mr. K Rajaraman, Secretary, DoT.

We have constantly pushed towards expanding our footprint both nationally and internationally to create high-value projects which can help create a globally competent skilled workforce. Today, 5G technology is expected to boost the Indian economy by $450 billion between 2023 and 2040 and we are currently facing an acute shortage of about 1.4 lakh workers in 5G and its allied technologies. We are happy to partner with TiHAN – IIT Hyderabad on such an occasion as over the past decade, we have trained over 10 lac candidates in various roles catering to the industry demand and this partnership will further propel our vision to skill/reskill/upskill the talent workforce at the highest possible level and make them aspire to the highest standards of quality and skill.
