Thanasi Kokkinakis has booked his spot in yet another Adelaide International semi final, overcoming a sleepless night to beat Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic in the quarter final.
Kokkinakis took to the court less than 24 hours after upsetting the tournament’s No.1 seed Andrey Rublev, and was impressive again in the 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 win.
Following the win, the 26-year-old admitted he rode the energy of his hometown crowd after coming out “a little flat”.

“I didn’t sleep much last night, to be honest, at all. I reckon I got to sleep at five (am) and maybe slept for a couple of hours,” he said.
“I was tucked away doing my compression boots. So nothing too fancy just yet. I’ll wait ’til after Aus Open.
“I just couldn’t sleep last night for whatever reason, so I was trying to conserve energy. I didn’t want to use it too much.

“I had a couple of Monsters before I started and tried to get going.”
It’s been an impressive lead-up to the Australian Open for Kokkinakis, who will face fiery Italian Fabio Fognini in the first round at Melbourne Park.
Kokkinakis will face Spanish No.4 seed Roberto Bautista Agut in the semi final and could face either Jack Draper or Kwon Soon-woo in the final.
