The Vivo X80 and X80 Pro were announced in China earlier this year, essentially picking up where the X70 Pro and X70 Pro Plus left off respectively. Now, Vivo’s top-end phones for 2022 have received a global launch.
Starting with the standard X80, it enjoys a major power boost compared to the X70 and X70 Pro last year. This time, you’ve got a high-end Dimensity 9000 chipset which should match up well to rival Snapdragon silicon. Furthermore, the X80 brings a 6.78-inch FHD+ 120Hz E5 OLED screen, a 4,500mAh battery, and 80W wired charging (no wireless charging here).
Vivo’s standard phone is also equipped with a triple rear camera setup, comprising a 50MP IMX866 main camera (RGBW sensor, with OIS), a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 12MP 2x telephoto camera. A 32MP camera handles selfies. Don’t expect micro-gimbal stabilization on these cameras.
Other features you should know include an in-display fingerprint sensor, dual stereo speakers, NFC, and the custom V1 Plus imaging chip.
Vivo X80 Pro: Pro Plus with a new name?

The X80 Pro lines up well with last year’s well-received X70 Pro Plus, but also offers a number of upgrades in terms of power, battery capacity, and charging speed. For one, the global model is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 only (no Dimensity 9000 model here as we saw in China).
Vivo’s Pro model brings a rear camera system that seemingly has a lot in common with the X70 Pro Plus at first. You’ve got a 50MP main camera (Isocell GNV), 48MP ultrawide camera, a 2x 12MP portrait shooter, and an 8MP 5x periscope lens. However, Vivo has decided to switch the micro-gimbal stabilization system from the ultrawide lens to the 2x camera instead. You’ve still got a similar 32MP selfie camera system on the front though.
The X80 Pro also brings a couple of noteworthy camera modes to the table, such as a Motion Mode-like camera panning option (albeit not working for the likes of cars), a night sports mode, and a cinematic video bokeh option.
Other specs worth knowing include dual stereo speakers, NFC, the V1 Plus imaging chip, and Fun Touch OS 12.1 atop Android 12. Perhaps the best addition is the 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor though (seen in the image above), covering a much wider area than traditional in-display scanners. More specifically, Vivo says it covers 11 times the area of other fingerprint scanners and offers one-touch enrolment.
Vivo X80 series pricing and availability
Fancy getting your hands on these phones? Well, the good news is that the X80 Pro in particular is available in more markets than before.
Vivo told us that the Pro variant will be available in Europe, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Latin America, the Middle East, and South East Asia. Meanwhile, the standard X80 will be available in Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, and South East Asia, and Taiwan.
Expect to pay a starting price of Rs 54,999 (~$709) for the 8GB/128GB Vivo X80 in India, while the 12GB/256GB variant will set you back Rs 59,999 (~$774). The X80 Pro’s sole 12GB/256GB option will set you back Rs 79,999 (~$1,037), in line with the X70 Pro Plus launch price in the region. European pricing wasn’t announced at the time of writing.
Vivo also confirmed that the X80 series will receive three generations of Android OS updates, but just the standard three years of security patches.
